2000    Championships Race Results

Race Summary:

Sat. started out very overcast with rain.   No one showed till 9:00 am.   The weather really put a damper to the attendance, but for those who braved the conditions we had good wind and strangly enough the skies cleared just before the first race.   We could not see the windward bouy before that.  We had 5 of the famouse 5 jibe wind power race courses Sat. in winds ranging from 6 to 12.
Rodney Scholz was leading the sport fleet followed by George Konopka and Dan Thornton.   John Weiss was 7 points ahead of Arden Anderson who was 15 ahead of his brother Adam.   Robin Shaw from Iowa was dominating the Production fleet followed by Wayne Anderson and the only woman braving these conditions, Kathy Tatro.
Kevin was leading the Unlimited class 9 points ahead of Mike Bierworth sailing his new 11.0 Areotech.  I know he was real happy with the new sail by the smile on his face.  Niles Book from Mich. was in third place Sat. nite.
The bonfire Sat. nite started off with a big boom.  Rumor has it was close to Sonic.  Those who didn't go across the street to the Sunset Supper club, grilled out at the bonfire.  Which more than kept eveyone warm and in good spirits for the continuation of Racing Sunday.   By the way the best wind of the weekend was Sat. nite.
Sunday racing continued with a bit more wind.   9 to 17.   Three course races were held and the long distance was set up in what looked to be good wind conditions.  Well as fate might have it the wind die at the start of the race and everyone but 3 of the A-fleet bowed out of the race after the jibes.  Didn't want to pump across the lake with NoWind.  Well the Sport fleet and Three hardy A-fleeters did the whole race.  They gained big points seeing as it counted for two races.  (See results)
Sub sandwiches preceeded the awards and prizes.   Well a fun time was had by those who braved the conditions and I'm looking forward to next year.
