Surf’s Up - News that helps everyone sail better

We have been blessed with an early spring, which means the lakes will warm up sooner. People have already been swimming in Lake Winnebago across from the shop. So what are you waiting for, no excuses left, Get Out on the Lake and enjoy your water sports!

Wind Power Windsurfing Academy has Beginner Lessons available anytime by appointment. Kids Group Lessons will start on June 16th. On Wed. Night, Advanced Lessons start @ 5:30. Check out our web site for more details. Scroll down to the Academy link for lesson and rental information.

Have you tried Stand Up Paddling? (SUP) well it’s the fastest growing water sport at this time. It’s fun and great exercise for those light wind or no wind days. You can cruise around the lake and get a great core workout while you are sightseeing. The SUP Boards are similar to a long surf board or a windsurfing Longboard. If you already have a longboard all you need is a paddle. Wind Power has them for sale or rent.

Get on Your Kites and Ride! Kevin taught many new kite lessons this last winter, so be sure to welcome the new kiters and help them out. They will appreciate it, we were all at their level at some point. A few locals are pushing 20 times on the soft water this year already!

Don Altmeyer organized the Wind Power Hatteras trip a few weeks ago. His sister Leah joined him along with Jeff & Bonnie Koeberl, Greg & Kathy Liefer. Kevin also went to test his new shoulder out, windsurfing in high winds (He had it replaced in Dec.) Voila and Kudos to Dr. Erickson and the gang at Back-in-Action for their hard work and putting up with Kevin, He can windsurf again without pain! He was grinning from ear to ear after his first session. He said his jibes were rusty but it sure felt good to get back on the board and rip. The group windsurfed and kited. On the light wind days Leah windsurfed and some of the group wakeboarded behind Don’s jetski. Many excellent dinners were cooked as usual using the fresh fish available. Don and Kathy came up with a new game format from the gameshow, A Minute to Win It. What fun and lots of laughs by all. Everyone is looking forward to going back in the fall or next spring.

Team Wind Power is looking forward to playing with you on the water this summer. Make plans now, Start Early, don’t let the summer get away on you. SEE YOU SOON!

Open Bic News!

Sheboygan has joined the Open Bic Evolution. Now we have fleets in Fond du lac, Madison, Oshkosh, Sturgeon Bay and Sheboygan. New this year Wind Power will be hosting and supporting numerous Open Bic Un-Regattas in the Fox Valley and surrounding area. The Open Bic is a new and exciting kids sailboat. Kevin and Steve taught hundreds of kids last year how to sail in the fun easy learning boat. Stay tuned for more information on lesson dates and Regattas.

Kiting Product Update - Attention All Kiters with DaKine Harnesses.

DaKine has release a new product that will prevent your spreader bar from coming unhooked accidentally. (like when you ride toe side). It’s called a Clip Lock. It clips on to the spreader bar after you have attached it to the harness. It prevents the spreader bar from coming un-clipped until you remove the Clip Lock. All the 2010 DaKine Harnesses have the Clip Lock. It can be easily retro fitted to an older Harness.
It’s just $3, a cheap fix.
